Dr. Daniel Ramjattan has become a leading ambassador for the classical guitar in Canada, premiering dozens of chamber and solo works. He has performed internationally in Austria, Italy, Japan, Trinidad and Tobago, the United States, and across Canada, earning top prizes in provincial and national competitions. Festival appearances include Koerner Hall’s 21C Festival, Ottawa Chamberfest, Livorno Music Festival, Alte Schmiede Kunstverein in Vienna, and the Vancouver Classical Guitar Festival. In 2023, he made his concerto debut performing Rodrigo’s Concierto de Aranjuez with the Stratford Symphony.
His debut album, Inspirations: New Works for Solo Guitar, features six works by Canadian composers, including three world premiere recordings. It was named CBC Radio’s Record of the Week in March 2022, and WholeNote Magazine praised his playing as “beautifully clean.”
Dr. Ramjattan completed his Doctor of Musical Arts at the University of Toronto in 2022, focusing on music performance anxiety in classical guitarists. He has presented lectures at major Canadian universities and was featured on CBC’s The National as an expert on the topic.
He is a faculty member at Wilfrid Laurier University, where he established a course on performance skills and anxiety. His students have won major awards and scholarships across Canada.
