Named “Canada’s next big cello star” by CBC Music, Cameron Crozman performs Dvorak's emotional and expressive cello concerto. Dvorak came from humble beginnings, reportedly playing as an 'extra' viola because he couldn't afford concert tickets. His mentors included Brahms, whose gentle first foray into orchestral writing was a set of variations based on a simple theme thought to have been by Joseph Haydn. Sadly, countless gifted composers with humble beginnings could never gain recognition, no matter how talented. We would never hear Fanny Mendelssohn-Hensel's sparkling Overture in C, for example, if not for her brother's fame. Whether famous or obscure, composer, player or patron, we all start simply by hearing great music for the first time and being inspired to listen and learn more.
