Sabatino Vacca
Sabatino Vacca is the Founder, Artistic Director, and Chorus Master of the newly formed Southern Ontario Lyric Opera (SOLO). He is also the Music Director of the Cambridge Symphony Orchestra (CSO), and the newly formed Milton Philharmonic Orchestra. SOLO debuted last season with Verdi's La Traviataunder his direction, followed by Puccini's Tosca. Next season they will perform Puccini's La Bohème and a double-bill Puccini's Gianni Schicchi along with Leoncavallo's Pagliacci. The CSO led by Sabatino has accompanied Ben Heppner, Richard Margison, Gary Relyea, and others in concert. Sabatino has conducted orchestras in the Czech Republic, Symphony Hamilton, the Cathedral Bluffs Symphony, the Scarborough Philharmonic Orchestra, the Brampton Symphony Orchestra, and the Kitchener-Waterloo Chamber Orchestra. For Opera York he has served as Artistic Director for productions of Carmen, Suor Angelica/Gianni Schicchi, La Traviata, Il Barbiere di Siviglia, Tosca, Rigoletto, La Bohème, Madama Butterfly, Il Trovatore, Le Nozze di Figaro, Così Fan Tutteand Lucia di Lammermoor. He was on staff with Opera Hamilton and has worked as an opera coach for the University of Toronto, Laurier University, as well as the Royal Conservatory of Music in Toronto. Sabatino is the recipient of the Spirit of Ontario Award for the Arts by the National Congress of Italian Canadians.
