Youth in the Arts
Youth & Education
The Etobicoke Philharmonic Orchestra encourages and supports the participation of young talented musicians in the orchestra. Advanced players have an opportunity to perform with the Etobicoke Philharmonic Orchestra. Many young players have performed with us as section players in the string, winds and brass as well as performing as soloists with the orchestra.
EPO Student Scholarship

Scholarship Students' Remarks
"Being a recipient of the Etobicoke Philharmonic Orchestra Student Scholarship this year has had a huge positive impact on my career as a student cellist. This scholarship allowed me to continue taking private lessons with a professional cellist and purchase sheet music when required. As a child of first-generation immigrant parents, I am extremely grateful for this opportunity to pursue my interest in music without burdening my family financially."
—Dayoung, 4th year music student at University of Toronto
"Receiving the Etobicoke Philharmonic Orchestra's student scholarship has been a real privilege over the past two years. Being paid money for doing what I love to do gives me confidence that I will have a successful career in music. During the school year, studying music both in school and outside of school leaves me with too little time to be employed with a part-time job like most post-secondary students. With this scholarship, some financial pressure is taken off me when tuition is due. Overall the Etobicoke Philharmonic Orchestra does a great job of nurturing the talents of young musicians like myself, and this scholarship has been a blessing for both myself and my career."
—Steve, 1st year student at Humber College
"My name is Blaise Gratton and I am a grade 11 student at Etobicoke School of the Arts. This was my first year as a member of the Etobicoke Philharmonic Orchestra as a student scholarship winner and I can surely say that it has been an amazing experience for me. I have been set on pursuing a music career since grade 4 and the Etobicoke Philharmonic Orchestra has helped me gain the confidence and the skill set to pursue such a risky career. I have found that playing amongst more mature musicians has helped me develop as a musician and I have also been enjoying the opportunity to play such advanced repertoire. I have been saving up my scholarship money to help pay for my tuition and I am looking forward to auditioning for universities next year."
