Joseph is a native of Hungary and spent his youth in Israel. He came to Canada in 1968 to study with Lorand Fenyves, earning his Bachelor of Music degree from the University of Toronto. He subsequently received his Masters of Music degree from Indiana University while working with Josef Gingold. Mr. Peleg also worked with the eminent virtuosi, Joseph Szigeti and Nathan Milstein in Europe.

His intense interest and passion for chamber music as well as solo performance has involved him in numerous engagements and recordings in Canada, the United States, Israel, and throughout Europe, including, among others, Belgian Radio, Radio Bremen, Dublin, Finnish Broadcasting, Norwegian and Swedish Radio.

He is a former member of the Purcell String Quartet, the Galliard Ensemble, and the Amati String Quartet and is now the leader of the Contreras String Quartet, who have performed in several homes in Oakville as part of the “Music Room”.

As well as serving as concertmaster of the OSO, he is also concertmaster of the Oshawa-Durham Symphony Orchestra. With his enthusiastic demeanor, great ability and deep knowledge of his instrument, he has helped produce and develop a particularly full and rich string sound for our orchestra.

Mr. Peleg enjoys making music with both professional and amateur musicians who love the thrill of music.
