Scholarship Winner 2008/2009

Rachel Kim is a violinist and an International Baccalaureate student at Weston Collegiate Institute. At the age of nine, she started studying piano and Suzuki violin in her home country, South Korea, until she was thirteen. A former John G. Althouse student, she was a principal violinist for Honour Orchestra and a vice principal for Chamber Strings. She has participated in several Kiwanis Festivals. She also volunteered at John G. Althouse for its music camp throughout her highschool years. Ever since 2007, she has been a violinist at EPO.

Scholarship Winner 2006/2007

Matthew Perkins is a new violinist with EPO this season but is an accomplished performer who has studied Suzuki violin with the Etobicoke Suzuki School of Music. We are please to hear he will be joining us again this season.

Scholarship Winners 2004/2005

Maia Broido violinist,was born at May 16, 1986 in Saint-Petersburg, Russia. As a "victim" of a Russian idea of the early beginning of music studies she began to play violin and piano at the age of 5. It was really wonderful that she was feeling herself very lucky to play music so much. At the age of 14 years, Maia came to Canada just after graduation a Music School and has performed with the National Youth Orchestra of Canada and The Toronto Symphony Youth Orchestra. Maia is a winner of Toronto Music Competition 2003, she took second place in the Kiwanis Festival 2003.

James Woomert violist,is a graduating student from Martingrove Collegiate. Jamie won a position in the Toronto Symphony Youth Orchestra where he was Principal Viola this past season. A highlight for him last summer was he acceptance into the National Youth Orchestra of Canada. James will be studying for a Bachelor of Music at Indiana University in 2004/2005.

Steven Lundy is a talented young trombonist studying at The Etobicoke School for the Arts. Steven performs in The Etobicoke Youth Band and the Hannaford Street Youth Band and plans to continue education in music. Steven enjoys working with other young performers and enjoyed teaching at Albion Hills Music Camp this past summer under the Direction of Les Dobbin. Steven plays regularily with EPO and also works behind the scenes at the box office and on the web site.

Suzanne Ruttan, a cellist and student at ESA enjoys performing the cello in various community groups. She will continue cello in Grade 11 this year and has also been awarded a scholarship to Interprovincial Music Camp. Suzanne performed in the cello section with EPO for the 2003/2004 season developing her skills as a symphony player.
